Samir & Samira update: school temporarily closed due to flooding

While we may sometimes complain about a rainy day, heavy rainfall in Dhaka has a direct impact on daily life. Over the past week, the area surrounding the slum school supported by the Be the Planet Foundation was completely flooded, forcing the school to temporarily close.

In the meantime, Samir and Samira are continuing their schoolwork from home as best they can. Through Nazrul, our local contact, we received photos showing them doing their homework. These are powerful images that also highlights how vulnerable the situation can be.

Fortunately, both Samir and Samira are doing well. Despite the circumstances, they remain motivated to learn. It once again underlines how important education, structure and a safe learning environment are for these children.

The water levels have now receded, but the building still needs time before it is safe and fully usable again. Classes are expected to resume on June 7.

We are grateful for the updates and photos we continue to receive from Dhaka and will, of course, keep following Samir and Samira’s journey.
